Threat: Illegal immigrants in Japan!

with 5 comments

There are new posters around Ibaraki prefecture in Japan warning citizens of the threat of illegal immigrants invading the shores.

stop-em-at-the-shores

Caption reads: Stop them at the shores and protect [the nation].
Please cooperate in stopping foreigners from illegal entry and employment.

You might think the fully commando-suited five-man Japanese SWAT team armed with semi-automatic burst-fire weapons may be overkill in catching an illegal immigrant all by his lonely, but they’re a bigger threat than you might think.

Illegal immigrants are stealing all of the undocumented tax-evasion jobs from Japanese. How are Japanese citizens supposed to avoid paying taxes when these illegal immigrants won’t let them? How dare they.

  1. Don’t you just love anti-foreigner propaganda? This post is just way too much. Chances are that illegal immigrant is probably contributing more to the Japanese economy than the thousands of hikikomori, NEET, parasite singles etc.

  2. “Don’t you just love anti-foreigner propaganda?”

Wouldn’t know – because there isn’t any to be seen here. A call for cooperation in stopping illegal immigrants from entering and working in Japan, that I see. True, illegal immigrants are by definition foreigners, but saying that stopping illegal immigration is “anti-foreigner” is a bit like saying that stopping Japanese ‘ore-ore’ con artists is anti-Japanese.

    Think about it.

  3. Don’t really need to see why I have to think about it.

I used the wrong word, sue me. LOL

Funny how some comments get taken too seriously.

  4. This poster is about a year old now. I remember writing about it in summer 2007.

I think its not so much the text that is the problem, but the imagery. It seems to suggest that illegal immigration has to be met with paramilitary force. Whether that is true or not, the impression it leaves is pretty powerful (similar, in fact, to anti-terror posters I’ve seen in the UK)

Anyway, great blog, Alex. RSSing and bookmarking you now!

  5. There was another poster last year. It was slightly different – There were 6 police officers instead of 5.

    They’re just upgrading the campaign.
